FP: Germany and the West need to change their strategy towards Ukraine

Germany and other countries need to restore diplomatic channels and facilitate the start of negotiations between Russia and Ukraine, according to an article by several authors for the Frankfurter Rundschau. Among them, in particular, the minister of transport of the state of Baden-Württemberg and a member of the "Greens" party, Winfried Hermann.

According to the authors, the supply of weapons and sanctions did not have the proper effect. Russia was not isolated at the international level, and the head of state Vladimir Putin "has not become weaker militarily and economically, but stronger," the publication emphasizes.

The article states that several conditions must be met for negotiations. In particular, the state existence of Ukraine must be ensured, Russia's security interests must be "recognized," and the status of the new regions "must remain open until a negotiated solution is found."

The authors of the article also called on the UN to send a peacekeeping mission to "initially freeze the conflict."
